Following the reveal that the villain is a time remnant of Barry Allen, Team Flash attempts to stop him by preventing Barry from forming new memories. Their logic is that since Savitar is a future version of Barry, he remembers everything Barry does.
Because Barry loses his memory, Savitar also loses his, rendering him a non-threat temporarily. However, this also causes Wally West to lose his powers, as his speed was a direct result of Savitar's actions in the timeline.
The plan goes awry, causing Barry to lose his entire memory. He begins going by the name "Bart" .
