The file had been sitting in Elias’s "Unsorted" folder for four years. He found it on a Tuesday night while looking for tax documents. The date—didn’t immediately ring a bell, but the timestamp was precise:

"Do you think they’ll believe us?" a girl’s voice asked off-camera. Elias froze. It was Sarah. Video_2022-05-27_at_93027_PMmp4

Elias stared at his monitor in the present day. He remembered that drive, but he didn't remember the light. He didn't remember the violet sky. And most importantly, he didn't remember Sarah ever getting out of the car that night. He looked at the file size: The file had been sitting in Elias’s "Unsorted"

In the recording, the car rounded a bend near the old Miller’s Creek bridge. At exactly 9:30 and 40 seconds, the sky in the video didn’t just brighten—it inverted. For three seconds, the midnight blue turned into a searing, neon violet. The trees on the roadside cast long, impossible shadows toward the car, and the radio emitted a sound like a choir singing through a vacuum cleaner. Elias froze

Elias looked at his watch. It was 9:29 PM. Outside his window, the sky began to turn violet.

"They don’t have to believe us," a younger version of Elias replied from the driver’s seat. "We have the video."

It was a ghost of a file—a recording of a memory that had been deleted from his mind, leaving only a digital footprint that shouldn't exist. He hit play again, but this time, the video wouldn't open. The file name flickered once, then changed to: Video_2026-04-28_at_93027_PM.mp4. Today’s date. Tonight’s time.
